What you eat can impact your body’s overall health, and not surprisingly, that includes your veins. If you are looking to improve your vein health or prevent problems like varicose veins, you can start with your breakfast each day. The following foods make a great addition to your most important meal of the day:

1. Bowl of Oatmeal
Fiber is an essential nutrient for digestion. People who struggle with digestive issues like constipation may be at a higher risk for varicose veins than those who don’t, because straining when you go to the bathroom puts more pressure on the lower body. Diets high in fiber can also help lower your cholesterol, which is good for your circulatory system in general. Fortunately, one of the most popular breakfast foods in the world also happens to be one of the highest in fiber. Start your day with a warm bowl of oatmeal for healthier veins.

2. Grapefruit
When it comes to favorite breakfast fruits, grapefruit has topped the list for decades. As it turns out, it’s also a vein-friendly breakfast dish. Citrus fruits contain bioflavonoids which can reduce swelling and strengthen vein walls, making them an excellent choice for optimum blood flow. While you may not immediately think of red bell peppers as breakfast food, they can be quite tasty when cooked into an omelet. Add some onions for extra zest and protection against varicose veins. One onion contains about 13 percent of your daily recommended vitamin C intake, as well as vitamin B6, zinc, magnesium, potassium, and other essential nutrients.

4. Berries
Berries make a great addition to any breakfast. They can be added to cereal, oatmeal, smoothies, or yogurt, or you can just eat them on their own. 6. Apples
A side of apple slices with your breakfast is another way to increase your daily fiber intake. Apples do not contain any cholesterol, which is another plus for your circulatory system. Just make sure you eat the skin. Like buckwheat, apple skin contains rutin, which is a must for healthy veins.
